The Fort McMurray Airport Authority is excited to host a series of in-person and online events for Canadian Airports Safety Week at the Fort McMurray International Airport from September 23 to 27. Below, you’ll find the complete event details, including information on which events require prior registration.

- Safety Management Survey – Please take a moment to express your feedback about safety at Fort McMurray International Airport. Your contributions will play a crucial role in ensuring we provide a safe environment for all passengers, staff, and visitors.
- Risk Assessment – We encourage all Team YMM members to utilize the Safety & Security Reporting Form to provide feedback on whether the tool addresses all potential gaps. This form is available for both employees and passengers, allowing everyone to contribute to our safety efforts. To facilitate reporting, a QR code will be displayed throughout the YMM terminal for easy access. Your input is invaluable in helping us enhance safety and security at the airport.

The 2023 Fort Chipewyan Wildfire In celebration of Safety Week 2024, the Canadian Airports Council is hosting a Safety Success Story series. Join us to hear from FMAA’s Michael Sieger, Jeff Vadar, and Jessica Perry, along with Ian Fox from the Alberta Emergency Management Agency, as they discuss their successful efforts in supporting the 2023 Fort Chipewyan wildfire evacuation.

Fire Extinguisher Safety Training
Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
@ FMAA Maintenance Shop, Snow Eagle Airport Park
FMAA frontline personnel (priority) and all interested team members are invited to participate in the practical fire extinguisher training session. Under the guidance of our CAFS Team, you’ll gain hands-on experience with the safe operation of fire extinguishers.
Our Canadian Airports Fire Service (CAFS) Team will conduct a live demonstration, showcasing the proper techniques. If you feel uncertain about operating a fire extinguisher, you’re still welcome to observe the demonstration. RSVP Online.
Maintenance Equipment Encounter
Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.

The FMAA Maintenance Team will present a selection of maintenance equipment that ensures our airside safety. Participants will have the opportunity to join pre-trip inspections and take a ride with our Maintenance Team Members to see the equipment in action, all while prioritizing safety. RSVP Required.
FOD Walk at YMM
Friday, September 27, 2024 at 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.
@ Apron I and Cargo Area at YMM
Foreign Object Debris (FOD) refers to any garbage or loose items left on the airfield. The presence of FOD can pose serious safety risks to aircraft.
Participants are invited to join our frontline teams as “FOD Scavengers.” You’ll walk around the airside, searching for and removing FOD. Everyone is welcome to take part in the FOD Competition, where the Scavenger who identifies the most notable FOD will receive a prize!
Safety Week BBQ Wrap-Up

Join us for a BBQ celebration to wrap up Safety Week! This event is a wonderful opportunity to relax and connect with Team YMM as we reflect on the importance of safety in our workplace.
After a week filled with informative sessions and activities, we invite you to unwind and enjoy some delicious food in a friendly atmosphere. Bring your appetite and join us for burgers made by the YMM Fire Fighters, refreshing beverages, and good company.
