Fort McMurray Airport Named Official Port of Entry with Core Customs
Fort McMurray, AB–(October 30, 2013) – Fort McMurray Airport (YMM) has been granted official status as a Port of Entry into Canada with Core Customs service.
YMM has been working with Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) to obtain publically funded core services at the Airport and has been notified that the status has been established effective October 7, 2013.
“CBSA is proud to serve travellers at the newly designated port of entry at Fort McMurray Airport,” said Nina Patel, CBSA Central Alberta District Director. “Our Agency’s commitment to service excellence and ensuring Canada’s security and prosperity will benefit central and northern Alberta communities on a daily basis with this new port of entry.”
“This is a long-anticipated step for the Fort McMurray Airport and for residents of Northern Alberta. I sincerely congratulate the Airport on this positive development towards improving the quality of life for all Northern Albertans,” stated Brian Jean, MP, Fort McMurray – Athabasca.
With only seven months to go before the new terminal building opens, this announcement means that long term planning for more international and US transborder passenger and air cargo service can continue. “This achievement means that the community can pursue more direct services to the U.S. such as our daily nonstop to Denver and our nonstop flights to Mexico. It also means that we can continue to look at other destinations in the U.S. and internationally for nonstop service,” said Scott Clements, President and CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport.
