Fort McMurray, AB–(January 16, 2014) – Fort McMurray Airport (YMM) is excited to announce that Ledcor has will be the Presenting Sponsor for the Grand Opening Gala celebrating the opening of the new YMM terminal. The gala event will take place on May 31, 2014 and will celebrate the opening of the new Fort McMurray Airport terminal building with all proceeds going to local charities.

Set to open June 9, 2014, Ledcor is constructing the new 15,000 m2 (161,000 ft2), three-level airport terminal building. The project incorporates new technology for wood construction called CLT (Cross Laminated Timber). The CLT panels will be integrated into the roof structure, along with exposed structural glulam members. Unique metal panels, stone and glass are all architectural elements incorporated in the design to reflect the region’s uniqueness.
The $258 million Fort McMurray Airport terminal building will redefine air travel for the Region. Not only will it be easier and faster to move through, customers will experience a new level of comfort in our departure lounges, and exceptional selection in retail and dining. YMM will transform the customer experience for passengers into a more relaxing and memorable experience.
Chris Hadfield, famed test pilot of the fastest jets in the world and the only Canadian astronaut to command the International Space Station, will help kick off a new era in aviation for the Region at the YMM Grand Opening Gala on May 31, 2014. Hadfield will be joining Bachman & Turner as the celebrity guests for the gala event taking place in the brand new 150,000 square-foot terminal building, Tickets for the event will be available through invitation only or through sponsorship of the gala event.
