Fort McMurray Airport Authority Staff Raise Over $13,000 for Wood Buffalo Food Bank at Holiday Party

December 15, 2014

Fort McMurray, AB – December 15, 2014 Fort McMurray Airport Authority is pleased to announce that $13,610 was raised in support of the Wood Buffalo Food Bank during their annual staff holiday party held on Saturday, December 13, 2014. Donations included cash, gift cards, and an assortment of non-perishable goods to stock the shelves of the food bank. The Fort McMurray Airport Authority matched the funds donated by its staff members.

“During the festive season, it can be too easy to get caught up in our own merriment and neglect to remember the less fortunate in our community,” commented Fort McMurray Airport Authority President and CEO Scott Clements. “We wanted to share our holiday cheer with a worthy local organization, so we chose to raise money for the Wood Buffalo Food Bank during our staff party.”

This is the third year that proceeds were raised for the Food Bank at the Airport Authority’s holiday party. Earlier this year, the Airport Authority also raised $50,000 in support of the Food Bank during the gala celebrations for the opening of the new terminal. The Airport Authority is proud to sponsor the Food Bank on an ongoing basis as part of their Community Investment Program (CIP). This program provides long-term support to local not-for-profit organizations that contribute to our community’s quality of life.

The Wood Buffalo Food Bank, which began as the Fort McMurray Food Bank in 1983, provides emergency food resources and nutrition education to families across the region. In addition to a traditional food hamper program, the Food Bank also teaches workshops on healthy cooking on a limited budget, offers a school snack program, and operates a mobile pantry which distributes goods to rural communities.
