Fort McMurray Airport Authority Attracts New Charter Air Service

November 28, 2019

Fort McMurray, AB – Thursday, November 28, 2019

Fort McMurray, AB – Beginning this January, the Fort McMurray Airport Authority will be offering a new charter service to help residents escape the cold with Caesars Rewards and Harrah’s Laughlin.

“This is a significant step for our organization and the community,” says RJ Steenstra, President and CEO of the Fort McMurray Airport Authority. “It has been four years since residents experienced a cross-border flight departing from YMM. The new service is an important step towards increasing activity at the airport and meeting local demand.”

The Airport Authority is taking a sustainable approach to air service development by introducing an innovate charter concept. The new partnership with Caesars Entertainment Group is expected to meet demand for a Wednesday to Sunday getaway during the winter months.

“We are excited to introduce the Caesars Rewards Air charter service to Fort McMurray,” says Michael Brown, Director of Marketing for Caesars. “Harrah’s Laughlin, a fully owned Caesars Entertainment hotel and casino, is located on the banks of the Colorado River and boasts 1506 rooms with 182 suites. The property sits on over 1,100 feet of river front property nestled in a private cove with 700 feet of soft sand beach.”

Air Service is a form of investment attraction in our community. Airlines and entertainment groups such as Caesars, invest their aircraft assets and products into markets where they see the greatest potential to attract customers. Wood Buffalo’s northern geography, and our high propensity to travel, makes our region an attractive place for special charter services.

“This is a tremendous milestone for the airport,” says Kevin Weidlich, President & CEO of the Wood Buffalo Economic Development Corporation. “New air service at YMM supports greater connectivity to and from Wood Buffalo, and enhances community liveability, all of which contribute to attracting new businesses, visitors and future residents.”

Wood Buffalo continues to be an underserved market in many areas. When the airport attracts and sustains a new air service, it has the potential to create a ripple effect by making our market even more appealing to other carriers and entertainment groups. This type of economic activity aligns with the municipality’s goals to further the interests of business, while also serving the needs of residents.

“Access to destinations across Canada and the world have a positive impact on quality of life in Wood Buffalo,” says Mayor Don Scott. ”It is incredibly important for the community to support our local airport and contribute to the sustainability of our award winning community asset.”

Travel packages include a flight, four nights at Harrahs Laughlin, luggage handling, transportation to and from the Bullhead City/Laughlin International Airport and free parking at YMM. Flights will be operated by Sun Country Airlines. Must be 21 and older and a Caesars Rewards member to book.
