New YMM Digital Art Exhibit Launch Featuring Jon Tupper

January 23, 2024

Residents are invited to attend the launch event at the Fort McMurray International Airport

Fort McMurray, AB – The Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA) invites residents to attend its YMM Digital Art Exhibit Launch, featuring award-winning photographer Jon Tupper. The event takes place Thursday, February 1, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Observation Area (3rd Floor) at YMM.

The digital art exhibit is titled “Ad Astra: To the Stars”. Tupper’s astrophotographs have been captured from areas throughout Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, including during the sunrise solar eclipse that took place three years ago. Tupper’s photography has been featured in Sky News Magazine, a publication of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada, as well as Global News and CTV News.

“It is a true honour to have my photography selected to be part of the YMM Digital Art Exhibit,” says Tupper. “My hope through these images and this art is to allow visitors to our region and residents returning home, to take a moment from their travels and join together for a visual journey through creation.”

“Featuring local artists’ work on our digital screens enhances the terminal as well as the passenger experience. It’s a pleasure to showcase the talented artists we have in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo,” says Michael Sieger, VP Air Services & Commercial Development for the Fort McMurray Airport Authority. “Our judging panel had a hard time selecting the four artists to be showcased in 2024.”

Guests will enjoy light refreshments, live music, networking, presentations, and an opportunity to ask questions about the call to artists for future YMM Digital Art Exhibits. Artists selected for an exhibit have their artwork featured for a three-month rotation at YMM.
