Fort McMurray Airport Welcomes Over One Million Passengers
Fort McMurray, AB–(December 2, 2013) – Fort McMurray Airport (YMM) is celebrating for the first time, one million passengers over the course of a calendar year. YMM now joins the ‘million passenger club’ exclusive to a select few Canadian airport members. The one millionth passenger was served in early November.
“Reaching the one million passenger milestone is a significant achievement for YMM and is indicative of the robust growth in the region. Air service provided to the region has grown considerably in recent years, and this milestone reflects the strong community support for the new and improved air services,” stated YMM Airport President & CEO Scott Clements. “We want to thank each and every one of the over one million passengers that have travelled with us over the past year for choosing YMM.”
“The growth we are experiencing is remarkable and we know the pressure that is being placed on our current terminal building by this crush of passenger traffic. We are eagerly anticipating the opening of the New Terminal and look forward to its opening June 9, 2014,” said Clements.
The push for one million comes with little surprise as the airport continues to enjoy nation leading passenger growth at 26%. The success that YMM has experienced can be attributed to airlines partners adding and increasing services to YMM such as the daily nonstop service to Denver and the increase in aircraft size and frequency on existing routes. All improvements have allowed travellers more options when flying at YMM.
