Fort McMurray International Airport Kicking Off a Festive Holiday Season

December 13, 2017

Fort McMurray, AB – December 13, 2017 – The Fort McMurray International Airport is ready for another busy holiday season, with special events and services planned throughout the month of December.

While the festivities officially began on Saturday, November 18 when staff from multiple businesses on the airport’s campus, known as TeamYMM, came together to set up the first decorations of the season, there are many events taking place throughout the month of December that passengers and guests won’t want to miss.

Upcoming Holiday Happenings

Gift Re-Wrap Station:

Volunteers from the Fort McMurray Airport Authority and TeamYMM will be providing a complimentary gift wrapping service periodically between December 16 and December 22. Due to security regulations put in place by Transport Canada, it is recommended that passengers keep their gifts unwrapped as they may need to be inspected as part of the screening process. To ensure our guests get to where they need to be with their gift in-hand this holiday season, the Gift Re-Wrap Station will be set up post-security during peak travel times to wrap or re-wrap presents. Follow us on our Facebook and Twitter pages for updates on when this service will be available.

Holiday Performances:
The Fort McMurray International Airport will welcome back holiday performances this year from talented local artists. Enjoy the musical renditions of holiday classics by artists Matty Parlee, Dan Gillies, Dave Martin, Don Grose and That A Capella Group.

A Visit from Santa:
On Friday, December 22, Santa will be taking a much needed break from working in the North Pole to visit the Fort McMurray International Airport. He’ll be making his way throughout the Main Terminal from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. handing out candy and spreading holiday cheer.

  Have a Parking Plan

During peak travel times, parking areas at YMM can fill up quickly. It may take longer than usual to find a parking spot, so please give yourself extra time to find a space and make your way into the terminal.  For more information on parking at YMM, please visit www.flyymm.com/getting-around/parking.

Know your Baggage Requirements

Before travelling, ensure you check your baggage requirements with your airline. This will allow you to pack accordingly and understand additional charges that may apply for your checked or carry-on luggage.

Keep your Gifts Unwrapped

If you are travelling with gifts in your carry-on luggage this holiday season, we recommend you leave all gifts unwrapped as they may need to be inspected before passing through security. Wrapped gifts that require inspection can cause delays for both you and other passengers.

Confirm your Airline’s Seasonal Pet Policy

Due to the busy holiday season, some airlines may have a seasonal pet policy in effect that may be different from their regular pet policies. Please check with your airline before your scheduled travel day to confirm their policy.

Indulge Responsibly

Canadian aviation regulations prohibit airlines from allowing passengers to board an aircraft when intoxicated and may be a hazard to others on board.  Please do not ruin your travel experience, and the travel experiences of others, by indulging irresponsibly this holiday season.
