Fort McMurray, AB – October 16, 2018 – The Fort McMurray Airport Authority’s policy on cannabis consumption will follow the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo’s Smoking and Vaping Bylaw no. 18/022. Cannabis use is prohibited on airport property. This includes the areas outside the terminal building designated for tobacco smoking or vaping.
As of October 17, within Canada up to 30 grams of cannabis is permitted in a traveller’s carry-on or checked baggage. Cannabis will continue to remain illegal to take across Canada’s national borders, whether you are entering or leaving Canada. This remains a serious criminal offence subject to arrest and prosecution.
Travellers are responsible for their actions at all times. Regulations around travelling while impaired have not changed. For the safety of airline passengers and crew, if there is reason to believe a passenger is impaired by alcohol or drugs, prior to boarding a flight, airline staff may deny boarding to that passenger. Passengers who are denied boarding will be responsible for any additional cost incurred as a result.
