FMAA continues to enhance health measures and protocols at YMM

Fort McMurray, AB – Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) has received re-accreditation under the Airports Council International (ACI) – World Airport Health Accreditation program.

To be re-accredited, YMM successfully demonstrates and provides a safe airport experience for all travelers, in line with recommended health measures established by the ACI Aviation Business Restart and Recovery Guidelines, International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Council Aviation Recovery Task Force Recommendations and Aviation industry best practices.

“Extending Fort McMurray International Airport’s Health Accreditation for another 12 months through the re-accreditation offered by ACI World, and supported by ICAO, reinforces the high priority and commitment the airport places on health and safety measures,” says Wayne Harvey, Vice President, Operational, Technical and Regulatory Affairs, Canadian Airports Council.

In September 2020, YMM was the third airport accredited in Canada. Since then, 18 Canadian airports have received accreditation – offering confidence and peace of mind to air travellers.

Since YMM’s first accreditation, they have introduced state-of-the-art disinfection technology, increased sterilizing frequency, added numerous sanitizing stations throughout the terminal, and amplified educational travel information and signage throughout the terminal.

“My team of custodians is proud of our work in keeping YMM safe and clean. The focus on disinfection reassures our commitment to foster an exemplary travel experience for customers, despite the pandemic,” says Glenda Higdon, Site Manager of Bill’s General Cleaning at YMM. “BGC was proud to receive a 2020 President’s Award in recognition of our team’s diligence in keeping YMM clean and hygienic.”

YMM has issued a second survey to tenants and stakeholders, to gain insight and collect feedback to identify successes as well as areas with room for improvement.

Jade Botting, General Manager of Earls – YMM, appreciates the support and communication she’s received as a YMM tenant, “We’re grateful to the Fort McMurray Airport Authority for providing the resources needed throughout this pandemic to help us navigate this new world,” she says.

“I want to thank everyone for their efforts to protect our employees and customers by focusing on our YMM COMMITTED values. Our re-accreditation is the result of collaboration with our partners, community and the aviation industry as a whole,” says RJ Steenstra, President & CEO, Fort McMurray Airport Authority. “YMM COMMITTED is our pledge to live by our values, by providing a healthy, safe and secure air travel experience.”

Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) is owned and operated by the Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA), connecting the World to the Wood Buffalo Region. FMAA is a community-based, non-share capital organization. The airport is a major economic driver for the region, with an economic output of over $354 million and supporting over 70 businesses on airport campus and over 900 jobs.
