Bicycle donation supports Indigenous youth

Fort McMurray, AB – The Fort McMurray Airport Authority (FMAA) Executive Leadership Team and Board of Directors recently gathered for their annual “Blue Sky Day,” a day traditionally dedicated to discussing strategic priorities for the Fort McMurray International Airport (YMM) and fostering team cohesion through various activities.

This year’s Blue Sky Day featured an exciting new element – supporting a non-profit. The team was guided by a facilitator from Eventology through a bicycle-building exercise, with the completed bikes being donated to the Wahkohtowin Sports Circle Foundation. Later in the day, Allison Flett, Director and Founder of the Foundation, alongside her son Cruz and Board Director Kelly Tole, spoke to the group about the organization’s mission and the significant impact it has on Indigenous youth in the Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo region.

The bicycles were officially presented to students today during the renaming ceremony of Fort Chipewyan Community High School, now known as Therese Tuccaro Secondary School.

“We are deeply grateful for this thoughtful donation, which will directly benefit Indigenous youth in our region,” said Allison Flett on behalf of the Wahkohtowin Sports Circle Foundation.

Cuyler Green, Vice President of Operations and Infrastructure for the FMAA, reflected on the experience, expressing not only his enjoyment of the team-building activity but also his pride in knowing the bicycles would make a meaningful difference. “I encourage every organization to consider integrating non-profits into their team-building or strategic planning sessions. This has been the most enjoyable corporate retreat I’ve participated in, and I’m proud that our efforts are helping youth who need these bikes,” Green stated.
